I was kind of astonished when I opened the Globe and Mail's books section this morning to find Superdad positioned as the "buzz book." The book won't be in stores for three months. But I guess thanks to the father-holiday connection, there it was, with the cover photo on the upper left hand corner of the opening page, along with a nice little complimentary blurb. And then I thought, oh shit. I'll get to that "oh shit" in a later blog post. For now, here's the blurb from the Globe:
"This anti-Father's Day fare from the author of The Soviet Ambassador turns the urban dad story on its head—and then rights it again. Beneath Shulgan's outwardly loving life with his young family in a hip part of Toronto lurked a darkness; Shulgan was a hard drinker—and something of a crackhead. In an unsparing, but also comic, account of his ventures into the deep woods off the parental path, he explores his own notions of fatherhood. And challenges ours."

Hey, congrats on the buzz. You have me on the edge of my seat with the "oh shit."

I was astonished too--and super happy. It's fantastic. Why the "oh shit"?
